That is what happens to many physically attractive men and women, they become so engrossed with themselves and their beauty, they become corrupt in the heart, and although their outward appearance may be appealing their inner self is very ugly!
This is one of my favorite parables and I wrote another blog some years ago on this topic, but I want to add a little more insight into this great parable.
Jesus explains the parable.
Matthew 13:36-43
Fear and shame are two of the biggest weapons of the devil, from the garden of Eden to this present day. Those two evil feelings are a direct result of sin in a person's life and can be inherited while still in the womb! If your mother is full of fear and shame, it can be passed on to the fetus even before the child is born. That is how generational curses are perpetuated in a family and only the power of God's grace and Spirit can liberate a soul from that heavy oppression.
When Adam and Eve sinned, immediately evil entered them and they became afraid of God instead of loving God and desiring His presence and fellowship. They became ashamed of who they were and how God made them, they saw that they were naked and hid themselves from their Creator. Fear can cripple and paralyze whole neighborhoods, cities, states, and countries! I write from experience on that because fear kept me from doing so many good things in life, for myself and others.
As a Christian, fear will keep you from speaking the truth in love, to other believers and unbelievers alike! Instead of standing up for the truth of God's word, Christians who are filled with fear, will run from confrontation, they will compromise their faith and even deny Jesus and His word. Peter was tested just like that and we know he denied Jesus three times, because he was really afraid of death, but he had spoken the exact opposite to Jesus.
Matthew 26:35
"Peter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” And so said all the disciples."
If your heart and mind is full of fear and shame, then you are not prepared to face death for Jesus, or to stand up for the truth. But it's not too late to prepare yourself! Because Jesus said clearly that one day all the nations will hate Christians for His name sake.
Romans 12:3
"For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith."Matthew 11:28-30
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Jeremiah 7:21-26
"Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices and eat meat. For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices. But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.’ Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but followed the counsels and the dictates of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward. Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have even sent to you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them. Yet they did not obey Me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did worse than their fathers.
One of the biggest, if not THE biggest root problems of mankind is obedience! Whether it be obedience to the laws of God, or the laws of man, it's just not the nature of human beings to obey! Many people have a problem with the word 'obey', itself! So what does 'obey' mean?
Obey: 1: to follow the commands or guidance of
