Psalm 14:1
"The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.”What is a fool you ask?
Merriam Webster's Dictionary says a fool means:
“A person lacking in judgment or prudence.”“A person lacking in common powers of understanding or reason.”
So would a person believing in an invisible God, and the words contained in the Christian bible, be a fool for believing what the scriptures say in Genesis 1:1-5?
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day."
The Hebrew word translated “fool” is nabal (נָבָל). It describes a person who is morally and spiritually senseless—someone who rejects wisdom, disregards God, and lives as though God does not exist or does not matter.
A fool can be someone who:
- Rejects God despite evidence of His existence
- Refuses wisdom and correction
- Lives according to his own desires rather than God's ways
- Acts as though there are no consequences before God
- Knows or encounters truth but stubbornly rejects it
- Trusts his own understanding above God's revelation
Here's what the bible says:
Genesis 1:26-31
"Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day."
I will believe what the scriptures say about God and the origin of human beings on this earth until the day I draw my last breath or the Last Trumpet of the Arch Angel sounds, signaling the Second Coming of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!! Which ever comes first!!
I will also stand with Paul, the Lord's first century apostle, who said in:
1st Corinthians 4:9-13
"For I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last, as men condemned to death; for we have been made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men. We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored! To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless. And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure; being defamed, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now."So then, who's the fool?
In Christ,
Tyrone
